When PSD Meets (Turkey) Vultures

Figure 1. Some serious feeding goin' on.

I love science. Really. One of the big holes in my science learning, however, is "the great circle of life". That appears to have been partially corrected the other day. I was running some errands, pulled up to an intersection near my house, and saw this. It's a large flock / gaggle / herd / group / pride / something of turkey vultures feeding on the remains of a squirrel. A friend of mine once called such corpses "PSDs" or "poor squirrel decisions". So here are the remains of a squirrel splattered on the road, and here is this large group (or whatever a group of turkey vultures is called) swarming around the corpse.

Let me just say that when I returned from my errands a short while (as in less than 15 minutes) later, both the turkey vultures and all remains of the squirrel were gone.

Cellphone Keyboard Fail

Figure 1. This is my new Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch. It's a nice looking phone.
Figure 2. It does have one REALLY annoying feature, however. On the keyboard, there is a microphone icon right next to the period key. And there is no way to remove it so far as I can tell.

This will be a short one. There are already a ton of reviews on my new cellphone / PDA / do-everything gadget, the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch My-God-Can-The-Name-Be-Any-Longer. I finally upgraded my phone so that I could receive pictures of my newest nephew. (If you saw how cute he was, you'd understand.) It's actually a very nice phone. I bought it with the full data plan. Despite the fact that Sprint charges an extra $30 / month for tethering (Seriously?!?!), the unlimited data on the phone itself works wonderfully in my area. It turns out I have quite good 4G coverage in my area.

The phone does have one really annoying feature, however. The keyboard. It's not even the whole keyboard; it's one small feature on the keyboard. For some unfathomable reason, they put a microphone icon on the keyboard itself. It must be one of the dumbest inclusions in a QWERTY keyboard ever. And so far as I can tell, there is absolutely no way to get rid of it. So, rather than just make the other keys a little bigger, let's put the microphone icon right next to the period key. Which means that, already today, even though I've had the phone less than 8 hours, I've probably hit that stupid button a dozen times, if not more. I'm used to typing with my thumbs (from my old LG Rumor phone), so hitting that button accidentally is almost guaranteed.

Now here this, Samsung. Give me the option to get rid of that... thing. Please.
